Why you’re so tired On Monday Mornings
One reason why so many people wake up feeling terrible on a Monday is that they sleep longer. Changing sleeping hours essentially put your brain through jetlag. If your normal sleeping times on a weekday are 11pm to 7am, and then you sleep from 1am to 11am over the weekend, this will result in tiredness on Monday morning.
Researchers have called this phenomenon social jetlag. It is the result of work, school, and social obligations having pushed the body away from the normal sleep patterns. Social jetlag has been shown to have adverse health consequences. Consistent sleeping times are as important as the quality and quantity of sleep.
