Andrew Eder was educated at St. Paul’s School in London and qualified as a dentist in 1986 from King’s College Hospital Dental School. In 1989, he moved to the Eastman to undertake postgraduate training and completed a Masters in Conservative Dentistry in 1990.

Professor Eder is Pro-Vice-Provost and Director of Life Learning at UCL. This position, with a mandate to facilitate growth of Professional Development, Short Courses and Executive Education across the University, follows Professor Eder’s recently completed ten year term as Director of Education and CPD at the UCL Eastman Dental Institute.

Professor Eder was recognised for his excellence and innovation in teaching and learning at UCL as a recipient of a Provost’s Teaching Award in 2010 and he continues to be involved in postgraduate dental education at the Eastman.

As a Specialist in Restorative Dentistry and Prosthodontics, Professor Eder also maintains a multi-disciplinary referral practice, Specialist Dental Care, in central London. As Co-Editor of the British Dental Journal book on Tooth Surface Loss, he has a special interest in the aetiology, demographics and clinical management of patients with tooth wear and is Clinical Director of the London Tooth Wear Centre.

Academic interests include innovative methodology and technology in teaching and learning and the impact of continuing education on patient outcomes in clinical practice. Professor Eder is a past President of Alpha Omega, the British Society for Restorative Dentistry and the Royal Society of Medicine’s Odontological Section. He is a postgraduate examiner at UCL and a specialty examiner at the Royal College of Surgeons of England and serves on the Editorial Boards of several national and international dental journals.

Professor Eder has also had significant impact as a direct result of his engagement with the wider community, both at home and abroad. In recognition of his various professional, charitable and communal roles and contributions, Professor Eder has received several awards including honorary fellowships and degrees, prizes for teaching and learning and has entries in both Who’s Who and Debrett’s People of Today.
