Researchers and scientists in early times thought that sleep was useless, time spent doing nothing productive. However, the last decade has seen a change in some of the long-held theories. Sleep is now recognized as a very important part of human health. Sleep is required for cognitive function and nearly all other health functions.
Studies have shown that sleep deprivation leads to poor cardiovascular health. Sleep is important for keeping the brain young and sharp, for memory and problem-solving functions.
Chronic insomnia has been associated with depression, cognitive impairment and lower overall quality of life.
