Women with Gestational Diabetes at Increased Risk for Obstructive Sleep Apnoea

If you think that gestational diabetes only involves blood sugar levels, you may be wrong. Gestational diabetes may also affect the way you sleep. A recent study has shown that women with gestational diabetes are nearly seven times more likely to have obstructive sleep apnoea than other pregnant women. This may be due to a link between gestational diabetes and sleep apnoea, which causes brief interruptions in breathing during sleep. This is why women with gestational diabetes mellitus should also be tested for obstructive sleep apnoea.
