What is Sleep Apnoea?
Does your partner say that you snore loudly at night? Have you woken feeling very tired in the morning? You could be suffering from obstructive sleep apnoea (OSA) caused by obstruction in the upper airways that leads to cessation of breathing. This causes the person to wake up gasping for air.
The signs and symptoms of sleep apnoea are:
a. Loud and consistent snoring.
b. Daytime sleepiness.
c. Waking up in the middle of the night to breath.
d. Dry mouth in the morning due to sleeping with the mouth open.
Look out for these symptoms and visit your doctor if you identify any of them. Early treatment of OSA through lifestyle changes, oral devices and CPAP therapy will reduce risk of serious conditions.
