Type 2 Diabetics: Get Evaluated for Sleep Apnoea
November was National Diabetes Month. Research findings have revealed that seven out of every ten people with type 2 diabetes have obstructive sleep apnoea. OSA is known to increase the risk of obesity and heart disease. Hence this past month, the National Healthy Sleep Awareness Project has advised all people with type 2 diabetes to get checked for sleep apnoea.
Sleep apnoea is a disease that affects all groups irrespective of their age, gender and body type. The common signs of sleep apnoea are snoring associated with gasping and choking, daytime fatigue, high blood pressure, and high BMI. Treatment for OSA is through oral applianes or continuous positive airway pressure therapy.
