Trucking Lobby Pushes Back Again on Sleep Apnoea Testing

BMITruckers have come together against the law requiring medical examiners to perform sleep tests based on the body weight, neck size, and the body mass index (BMI) of truck drivers. Other parameters used are overbite and snoring.

The truckers have convinced two lawmakers to sponsor a bill that prohibits the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) from enforcing the requirement of screening, testing or treatment of truck drivers and people who operate commercial motor vehicles. The requirement is that sleep apnoea testing should not proceed without going through the formal rulemaking and public comment process.
