Teen Night Owls Struggle To Learn and Control Emotions at School

teen sleepingYour average teen will struggle to wake up in the morning to go to school. It takes them a long time to wake up and will find it hard to concentrate in school.

Key takeaways:

·  A study was designed to understand the relationship between the amount of sleep, daytime sleepiness, and self regulation which is the ability to control behavior, emotions and cognitive functions.

·  Night owls struggled with self-regulation and were found to be irritable, impulsive and to have memory problems.

"Getting these kids enough sleep and appropriately timed sleep is necessary for optimal self-regulation," she says. "If you don't have enough and appropriately timed sleep, then you're going to compromise your ability to have these kinds of skills."
