Study Links Sleep Apnoea to Cancer and Strokes

familyA new study published in the Journal of Clinical Sleep Medicine,has linked sleep apnoea to an increased risk of heart disease, cancer and strokes. The study was undertaken by researchers from the University of Sydney and has discovered that people with a moderate or severe obstructive sleep apnoea had a 3.7 times higher risk of stroke.

Further still, people with sleep apnoea had a 4.2 times risk of death in general. The findings also said that sleep apnoea patients had a 2.5 times higher risk of cancer and a 3.4 times higher risk of dying from cancer. The risk factors for sleep apnoea are being overweight, smoking, family history and age.
