Snoring And Sleep Apnoea: Is It All In Your Genes?
The different factors that cause snoring and sleep apnoea can be classified as either acquired or genetic. The most prominent causes of snoring and sleep apnoea are:
· Alcohol consumption and smoking
· Anatomy of the upper airway, the shape of the head and face
· Neck circumference
· Neurological control of sleep
The shape of the head and face, upper airway anatomy, and neurological control of sleep are mainly the genetic factors. Obesity and neck circumference can be influenced by behavior and social factors.
