Sleeps Role in Obesity, Schizophrenia, Diabetes…Everything
Research undertaken over the years has revealed that sleep has a role in the incidence of conditions such as obesity, diabetes and schizophrenia. Sleep has been found to regulate and play a role in various mental processes and the basic metabolic processes.
The brain has been found to require an hour of sleep for every two hours spent awake to process information. Memories are often stabilized, strengthened and consolidated during sleep. Loss of sleep and sleep apnoea are associated with five fold greater risk of depression among other psychiatric disorders. Sleep has other diverse roles in both endocrine and immune functions.
