Sleep Studies Reveal that 1 in 3 People Diagnosed with Down Syndrome have Sleep Apnoea
The biggest study to date has been undertaken by a team of researchers in Edinburgh to investigate the prevalence of sleep disordered breathing in people with Down's syndrome. Sleep problems are common in the general population and people suffer from snoring, sleep apnoea and even sleep walking.
Previous research on sleep disorders in the general population have not touched on the people who suffer from Down’s syndrome. The study has now found out that 1 in every 3 people who suffer from Down’s syndrome have moderate to severe sleep apnoea. These people are not receiving treatment or any information about sleep apnoea and how to manage the problem.
