Sleep Issues Can Emerge During Menopause

menopauseWomen going through the menopausal transition period experience many issues concerned with sleep. There are many reasons why women in mid life will have numerous sleep problems. It is estimated that 61% of menopausal women have reported having insomnia. Some of the problems affecting sleep are hot flashes, depression, snoring, anxiety, and sleep apnoea.

Menopausal women will not only have problem with sleep quantity but will have problems with sleep quality as well. The reason behind the sleep problem is the decreasing melatonin levels. A study undertaken in Finland on melatonin levels showed that melatonin levels decreased with age and is affected by menopausal changes.
