Sleep: Fatigue and Obstructive Sleep Apnoea
A study was undertaken to identify the prevalence of sleep apnoea in patients with multiple sclerosis (MS) as well as the contribution of OSA to symptoms of MS fatigue. The study investigated and assessed the relationship between fatigue severity, OSA, OSA risk, and sleep quality in patients with MS.
The results from the study indicated that 21% of people with multiple sclerosis have been diagnosed with sleep apnoea. It was shown that an elevated risk of OSA in 56 percent of MS patients and 93 percent of people diagnosed with OSA. The conclusions from the study were that OSA and sleep problems were contributing to fatigue in patients with multiple sclerosis.
