Sleep Deprivation Is Killing You and Your Career
Research at the Division of Sleep Medicine, Havard Medical School, has revealed that the deleterious effects of sleep deprivation outweigh the short term productivity gains that an individual may obtain from working rather than sleeping. Skipping sleep or working late into the night is a productivity killer and also a health risk.
The recommended amount of sleep is seven to nine hours. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention report that sleep deprivation costs U.S. businesses more than $63 billion annually in lost productivity. Sleep has the benefits of staying healthy, thinking clearly, managing of emotions, and keeping calm under pressure all have a direct contribution to performance.
