Sleep Apnoea: The Real Risks Involved
Sleep apnoea is characterized by snoring and paused breathing at night which wakes up a person momentarily before they fall back asleep. Both adults and children alike can possibly suffer from sleep apnoea which may go undiagnosed for many years. Sleep apnoea will lead to obesity while on the converse, obesity can also lead to sleep apnoea.
Research in recent times has shown that sleep apnoea will lead to or increase the risk of depression, hypertension, heart attack, and stroke. A review from the Lancet Diabetes & Endocrinology journal says that metabolic health is dependent on factors such as physical activity and dietary habits. Sleep loss is yet another behavioral factor which adversely affects metabolic health.
