Sleep Apnoea May be Risk factor for Glaucoma

A study done way back in 2003 by Bendel revealed that a third of sleep apnoea patients were found to suffer from glaucoma. An optometry meeting came to the conclusion that cardiovascular and neurovascular disease associated with sleep apnoea will aggravate occurrence of glaucoma. According to Eric Schmidt, OD, repeated apoxia during sleep causes optic nerve hypoxia which in turn causes glaucoma.
