Sleep Apnoea Increases Risk of Pneumonia, says new study

sick womanA study published in the Canadian medical journal indicates that the occurrence of sleep disorders can lead to problems associated with the lungs. The risk for infection is greater. The study worked with 34,100 people who had healthy lungs and 6,815 among them were diagnosed with sleep apnoea. All these subjects were studied over a period of eleven years.

From the results of the study, 9.36 percent of those who suffered from sleep apnoea were admitted for pneumonia compared to 7.7 percent who developed the lung disease from the group that did not have sleep apnoea. The conclusion was that sleep apnoea was an independent predictor of sleep apnoea.
