Sleep Apnoea Associated With Shorter Leukocyte Telomere Length

Sleep apnoea sufficient to warrant hospitalization is associated with shorter leukocyte telomere length (LTL), a sign of accelerated aging, researchers from Finland report. This finding adds to previous literature in which sleep apnoea has been associated with aging related disorders by increased levels of oxidative stress, systemic inflammation, sympathetic activity, and endothelial dysfunction, showing that sleep apnoea (is also associated) with shorter LTL, a rough estimate of cellular aging.
