Sleep and Wellness 2014 Conference Announced
The American Sleep and Breathing Academy (ASBA), an educational institution for sleep disorders serves the community at large and educates sleep technicians and other medical professionals in the field of sleep disorders.
The American Sleep and Breathing Academy (ASBA) has set a date for its annual conference next year. It has announced that the conference dubbed “Sleep & Wellness 2014: A Conference for Professionals” will be held on May 1-3, 2014 in Scotsdale, Arizona.
The conference will be aimed at delivering information to the professional members of the academy as well as the general public. This is according to Dr Syed Nabi and Steve Carstensen DDS who are the education board directors at the American Sleep and Breathing Academy. They have packaged all the health information to be presented at the conference in a very pleasing and straightforward way.
The announcement says that the conference will be the first of its kind and will take on a multi-disciplinary approach to education on sleep medicine. The event is specifically aimed for nurse practitioners, sleep technicians, physicians, dentists, respiratory therapists and hysician’s assistants.
Throughout the duration of the conference, sleep experts as well as sleep physicians will provide information and teach the participants about obstructive sleep apnoea, insomnia, narcolepsy and pediatrics.
Technical sessions during the conference have also been put on the programme. The sessions are meant to provide Continuing Medical and Dental Education as well as continuing education to the technicians and the respiratory therapists. For these technical sessions, the participants completing the sessions will be awarded certification for continuing education.
Another feature of the conference is the three hour session which has been dedicated to imparting some information about healthy daytime living in order to optimise sleep. The session has been set aside with emphasis on community awareness and patient education. The session will have facilitators drawn from celebrity nutritionists and professional athletes who will be assisted by top sleep specialists from all around the country.
Dr Nabi and Dr Carstensen are confident that the conference's programme is one of a kind. This is especially due to the fact that the conference will deal with the topic of sleep and wellness. The manner in which the sleep and wellness topic has been tackled during the conference has been designed exceptionally well. It is hoped that sleep professionals and the public at large will take advantage of the conference which will provide potentially life changing information. The sleep and wellness programme will be made available to the public in the form of recordings of all sessions.
Due to the nature of their work, Dr Carstensen hopes that dentists will ensure that they see patients on a regular basis for preventive care and can make an impact on community health. With this education, identification of people at risk of sleep disordered breathing will become easier as well as initiating and coordinating the treatment team in providing health choices for patients.
