Severe Sleep Apnoea may Bring Greater Risk of Death for Some
The risk of death is quite high for people who suffer from obstructive sleep apnoea. The risk is higher among middle aged men and senior citizens. Sleep apnoea may go untreated for long periods of time and this brings about numerous health conditions. Studies have proven that obstructive sleep apnoea causes cardiovascular disease, obesity and host of other diseases.
A study undertaken over a period of 15 years indicated that 1,047 out 6,441 people had died after an average of eight years. After the adjustment of factors such as race, BMI age and smoking, it was indicated that men between 40 to 70 years suffering severe sleep apnoea had a one and half time higher risk of death.
