Self-driving cars will be safer than us. How long until human drivers are banned?

The self driving cars that Google is pioneering are being touted for their ability to prevent tens of thousands of road accidents. These cars will not have the limitations observed with human drivers. Human drivers have caused numerous fatalities on the roads and it is hoped that the robotic vehicles will minimize road carnage.
