Regularly Sleeping Too Long May Indicate a Health Problem
The benefits of sleep are immense and it is for this reason that the National Sleep Foundation campaigns regularly to emphasize the value of sleep. Sleep experts say that healthy sleep for the human adult is seven to nine hours. Sleep is equally important to exercise and proper diet.
People who consistently sleep for nine or more hours are getting poor quality sleep and will be on their way to illnesses, according to Kristen Knutson, a biomedical anthropologist at the University of Chicago. Disrupted circadian rhythm can lead to compromised immunity and numerous health problems. Further studies indicate that people who slept too much were at high risk of diabetes and coronary heart disease.
