Protective Cardiovascular Effect of Sleep Apnoea Severity in Obesity Hypoventilation Syndrome
Obesity hypoventilation syndrome (OHS) is linked to the high incidence of cardiovascular morbidity (CVM) and high mortality. Obstructive sleep apnoea (OSA) is concomitant with the disorder. However, there is a lack of sufficient data to show the link between cardiovascular morbidity and OSA severity in the majority of patients with OHS.
The cross-sectional study has found that the prevalence of CVM decreased significantly with the increase in OSA severity based on the oxygen desaturation index. The researchers concluded that these findings should inform the future design of interventions aimed at decreasing mortality and cardiovascular morbidity in patients with OHS.
