Poll Explores Sleep Differences Among Six Countries
The 2013 International Bedroom Poll undertaken by the National Sleep Foundation (NSF) sought to compare the attitudes, habits, sleep times and bedtime routines of people between 25 and 55 years of age in the United Kingdom, United States, Mexico, Canada, Japan and Germany.
Less than half of the people in each of these countries get adequate sleep every night. It was found that the Japanese and the Americans sleep for about 30 to 40 minutes less than all other people in the other surveyed countries. The differences spotted in the surveyed countries have been attributed to cultural differences which may inform further research in pinpointed factors according to Namni Goel, PhD, a member of the NSF 2013 International Bedroom Poll expert panel.
