Obstructive sleep apnoea (OSA) affects 2 to 6 percent of children of all ages. OSA even affects newborns that have enlarged tonsils and adenoids. Other causes of OSA in children are a large tongue, weakness in their muscles in the upper airway, nasal congestion, and narrow facial features.

Treatment of OSA is absolutely important to prevent serious health risks. Treatment options include adeno-tonsillectomy, steroidal nasal sprays for the mild cases of sleep apnoea, and positive airway pressure therapy for the older children. Failure to get treatment may cause stunted growth, pulmonary complications and cardiovascular diseases.
