The prevalence of obesity in the world today has reached epidemic levels. Obesity is a significant risk factor for obstructive sleep apnoea. Studies indicate that bariatric surgery to treat obesity reduces waist and neck circumference and effectively increases maximum ventilatory pressure, improves sleep architecture and reduces respiratory sleep disorders in obstructive sleep apnoea patients with severe obesity.
