Myofunctional Therapy to Treat Obstructive Sleep Apnoea: A Systematic Review and Meta-analysis

childThe study involved the performance of a meta-analysis on sleepiness, snoring, and polysomnographic data through the systematic review of literature for articles that evaluated myofunctional therapy treatment for obstructive sleep apnoea in children and adults. A pediatric study that evaluated children who had an adenotonsillectomy to cure OSA had indicated that patients who continued myofunctional therapy remained healed.

The conclusion from the review of literature demonstrated that myofunctional therapy decreases the apnoea-hypopnoea index by approximately 50% in adults and 62% in children. Myofunctional therapy could therefore serve as an adjunct to other methods of treatment forobstructive sleep apnoea.
