Mindfulness Meditation and Improvement in Sleep Quality and Daytime Impairment among Older Adults with Sleep Disturbances

meditationSleep disturbances are one of the most prevalent conditions among older adults and will remain untreated for long periods of time. The treatment options available for sleep disturbances are limited hence the need for accessible treatment programs to improve sleep. The study sought to determine the efficacy of mindfulness meditation to improve sleep quality.

The findings of the study were that the use of the mindfulness awareness practices showed vast improvement in sleep quality. The mindfulness based interventions carried clinical importance in treating sleep problems on the short term. The effects are that sleep related daytime sleepiness and complications will be reduces improving the overall quality of health and life.
