Lack of Sleep Can Cause Heart Disease

no sleepObstructive sleep apnoea is a sleep disorder characterized by pauses in breathing and other instances of shallow breathing. Sleep has been found to be a determinant of healthy heart functions. The lack of sleep has a direct association to cardiac diseases and conditions.

A recent study undertaken on cardiac patients in India has revealed that 96 percent of patients with cardiovascular problems suffered from obstructive sleep apnoea. The quality of sleep is very important and it was shown that a good night’s sleep will prevent problems such as heart disease and diabetes. Further still, good quality sleep will prevent work and road related accidents.
