Intra-oral Myofascial Therapy Versus Education and self-care in the Treatment of Chronic, Myogenous Temporomandibular disorder.
A study has been done to draw comparisons between Education, Self-care and Exercise (ESC) for TMD and intra oral myofascial (IMT) therapies. The study sought to find the differences that would be seen in the short term such as pain relief and the mouth opening range. 46 patients with chronic myogenous TMD were enrolled for the study at a jaw pain and chiropractic clinic in Sydney and placed into the ESC or the IMT group.
Over a period of five week, the groups received respective treatment twice per week. Data collected and analyzed indicated that patients in the IMT group had a significant reduction in pain after six weeks. The conclusions were that IMT therapy produced better results on the short term.
