Insufficient Sleep May Raise Nighttime Blood Pressure

sick womanA small study by the Mayo Clinic that was presented 64th Annual Scientific Session of the American College of Cardiology in San Diego has reported that people having prolonged periods of insufficient sleep are at risk of getting significant increases in blood pressure during the night.

Insufficient sleep has been classified as a public health epidemic by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Insufficient sleep has been shown to lead to motor vehicle accidents, industrial disasters and other occupational errors.

Additionally, the lack of enough sleep puts people at the risk of suffering from chronic diseases such as obesity, high blood pressure, depression, diabetes, cancer, decreased productivity and the reduced quality of life.
