Insomnia Linked to Increased GERD Risk

A cross-sectional study undertaken by a team of researchers from the Seoul National University Bundang Hospital in South Korea reveals that insomnia and other sleep disturbances leads to a high risk of gastroesophageal reflux disease. The researchers report that patients diagnosed with insomnia had a 3.5-fold increased risk for GERD after taking into account age, gender, body mass index, frequency of alcohol consumption, and depressed mood.
