How College Students Are Sleeping … Or Not

student sleepingThere has been a lot interest in studying the sleep habits of school going children and adolescents. Sleep has a big impact on memory, motivation, cognition, and on overall learning. These effects are magnified by long-term sleep deprivation.

The recommended sleep duration for young and healthy adults is seven hours of sleep a night on weekdays and a little extra on weekends. A study by Jawbone, the maker of a tracker called UP, showed that students aren't as sleep-deprived as first thought averaging 7 hours and 3 minutes during the week.

It was found that the tougher the school, the later the times of going to bed. Students at military academies were the most sleep-deprived.
