Fitness Trackers and Sleep: How Accurate Are They?
Fitness trackers are so common today and are even claimed to measure the time spent sleeping. It is now claimed that these trackers are even in a position to measure the time you spend in each stage of sleep. Popular trackers such as Fitbit Force, Jawbone UP, and Basis B1 have modes to track sleep in the deep and light stages.
Sleep experts however, are skeptical of fitness wristbands' accuracy in measuring sleep. These gadgets are fitted with accelerometers which detect motion and will assess periods of sleep and wakefulness. The accelerometers will not in any way distinguish the sleep stages as the wearer sleeps.
