Electronic Stimulation Therapy for Obstructive Sleep Apnoea Is Safe, Effective, New Study Suggests

Electronic stimulationThe use of an electronic stimulation device referred to as the Inspire Upper Airway Stimulation (UAS) has been evaluated. The Stimulation Therapy for Apnoea Reduction trial sought to determine the safety and efficacy of the UAS device in treatment for obstructive sleep apnoea. The UAS device works by giving a mild stimulation to the hypoglossal nerve to prevent the airways from collapsing.

CPAP has been effective treatment of sleep apnoea but it faces some challenges due to compliance with the treatment. Dr. Kingman Strohl presented the findings of the STAR trial which showed significant improvement in the condition. Now all systems are set awaiting the review and certification from the FDA.
