DVLA Tackles Facts Around Sleep Apnoea Syndrome

Sleep apnoea is a medical condition which can have serious consequences such as cardiovascular disease, diabetes and stroke. It can also lead to lung and kidney problems. On top of it all, obstructive sleep apnoea can cause increased daytime sleepiness which can increase the risk for vehicle accidents. Recently the DVLA has produced a document highlighting the facts around driving and obstructive sleep apnoea syndrome. This document, which has been developed between the OSA Partnership Group and the DVLA, has taken into account input from clinicians and the haulage industry itself. The aim of the proponents is to establish a consistent process that highlights the importance and the longer term benefits of seeking treatment quickly for sleep apnoea.
