Dentists Become Durable Medical Equipment Suppliers for Sleep Apnoea Oral Appliances

dnetal implantsDentists are now placing orders for oral appliances for obstructive sleep apnoea therapy. Insurance companies are now embracing and offering covers for oral appliance therapy. Oral appliances bear no dental code and are billed through a patient’s medical insurance or Medicare.

Medicare now covers oral appliances but with specific conditions. The policy taking care of the oral devices is called Local Coverage Determination for Oral Appliances for OSA. It demands that dentists should apply to become Medicare Durable Medical Equipment (DME) suppliers to be eligible to bill Medicare for oral appliance therapy. Lastly, the oral appliances used once the dentist becomes a DME supplier, must be Medicare approved appliances.
