Asleep at the Switch? Feds Blast Metro-North for Crashes

trainUndiagnosed sleep disorders have been blamed for a horrific derailment of a train in the Bronx. The engineer, William Rockefeller, had fallen asleep when the train derailed at a 30mph curve moving on a speed of 82mph. The National Transportation Safety Board report reveals that the engineer suffered from undiagnosed sleep apnoea and a change in his work shift.

The report further revealed that the railroad doctors failed to diagnose the sleep problem. The sleep apnoea and when combined with maladjustment to the sudden shift in work schedule were the source of fatigue at the time of the accident.
