Allergy-Induced Nasal Inflammation Can Worsen Sleep Quality, Experts Warn

Health experts are warning that nasal inflammation caused by allergens will lead to worsening of sleep apnoea syndrome symptoms. The warning comes in the face of the beginning of the pollen season. A stuffed nose alone will cause poor sleep quality. Poor sleep quality will lead to sluggishness, drowsiness and poor concentration during the day.

Researchers at the University of Occupational and Environmental Health examined the relationship between allergy-caused nasal inflammation, stuffed noses and sleepiness during the day with a group of 1,459 workers. Inflammation alone did not increase sleepiness during the day, but a stuffed nose accompanied by inflammation led to poor sleep quality and sleepiness during the day.
