Adult Obstructive Sleep Apnoea
Do you have obstructive sleep apnoea? If you have this disorder you are not alone. Obstructive sleep apnoea is becoming an increasingly common disorder which is characterized by repeated airway collapse during sleep. This further causes oxygen desaturation, disrupted sleep and other signs and symptoms such as snoring, witnessed apnoeas, and sleepiness.
There are various causes of sleep apnoea such as a small upper airway lumen, unstable respiratory control, low arousal threshold, small lung volume, and dysfunctional upper airway dilator muscles. You may be at risk if you have risk factors such as obesity, male sex, age, menopause, fluid retention, adenotonsillar hypertrophy, and smoking.
